Should bloggers and website publishers use adsense or affiliate links on their websites?

Once upon a time I would have thought adsense. Now I’m leaning towards affiliate links. I would suggest start with affiliate links. If they don’t work rotate a dozen or so related affiliate links/banners. If that still doesn’t work use adsense as a last resort.

Of course you could do a mix, but, if you had to pick one or the other to use on a website or recommend somebody else use on a website, which would it be?
