This morning I awoke to the following email from Apple Itunes:

Dear Podcast Owner

Your podcast, located at [ http://feeds.45n5.com/rss4real ], has been approved. You should expect to see it in iTunes within the next few hours. When it’s available, you will be able to access it with the URL below.

Cool! Sure enough I can see my videos in Itunes now with the ability to subscribe:

itunes

Note: Even after the approval process there is another waiting period to be added to the browse function of itunes.

Appearing in the browse category that you specified can take up to five days.

Thanks to inverted reality for suggesting the idea to me. Also, Geeks are Sexy is having a “how to” competition so I thought I’d share my news with you including a “how to” get YOUR videos into itunes podcast directory.

The following video explains everything I’ve done to get my video blog into itunes:

(download m4v - 36 megabytes)

Here Are The Itunes Video Details

1. Make a video. Duh.

2. Open your video with Quicktime Pro. Export as “movie to ipod” to make your video itunes quality. It creates an m4v file.

3. Amazon S3 (link to my tutorial) - This is where I upload my videos for the world to download.

4. A blog. I prefer to make my own but popular free solutions include wordpress.com and blogger.com.

5. Add your new blogs rss feed to Feedburner Smartcast. Feedburner automagically finds the video files you link to in your posts and “embeds” them for itunes to see.

6. Submit your new Smartcast feed to Itunes. They should approve you in a few days ;-)

Congrats on getting your videos in Itunes. Now go subscribe to this blog (45n5) to get updated whenever we make more cool content like this and of course subscribe to our video feed in itunes.
