Let’s play a game. I’ll start off with a few suggestions on how to build some free buzz for your next site or project. Next you leave some comments with your suggestions. After awhile we can all learn from each other to become awesome buzzmasters.
I discuss my ideas in the next video and also list them below:
1. Build something great. You need to create something different from everything else that exists. People talk about the new stuff.
2. Get excited about the thing you are promoting If you aren’t excited about your latest pitch how can you expect other people to be.
3. Email everybody that might be interested about your thing Don’t spam them. Don’t ask for links or reviews. Just let them know they like abcdefg’s and you’ve got this new cool abcdefg. That’s it.
4. Build something that markets itself Something that when it spreads has a link back to the about page or is tagged with your link or widgets are perfect examples of ideas that market themselves.
5. Give people marketing materials If you can’t scan your text and find a good “summary” snippet from it neither can other people. Give them a summary. Include many pictures of your “thing” you are promoting so people can quickly grab them to add to their blog posts. Make ANY video (no need to be in it to demo your thing) about your new thing so people can embed the video.
6. Take the path of least resistance Go find people that have blogged about similar “things” in the past and be sure to add them to your email list from step 2.
7. Hit the social sites Digg.com, stumbleupon.com, redit.com, del.icio.us are all socail sites that can send boatloads of traffic. If you have some friends that can show you some love on these sites then make sure they know you need some love.
I was going to turn this into a Top10 list but I thought it would be more fun if the post continued in the comments.
