Here are a few tips that aren’t very sexy but things I look for on sites that I’ve had for awhile.
Add/Optimize Income Sources On Popular Pages
After you get some traffic to an affiliate site, look at your log files then revisit the pages with the most traffic.
See if you can add any additional revenue streams like some affiliate links or customize the adds specifically to be very relevant to those high traffic pages.
Robots.txt
The first file that a googlebot or yahoo or any bot grabs when they stop by your site is robots.txt.
Make sure you have a robots.txt file and it isn’t blocking bots from places you want them to go.
Bots will still crawl your sites without a robots.txt but I hate having my log files filled with errors because I forgot the robots.txt
Tracking Ids and Channels
Many times an after thought is to add tracking to my affilaite links and adsense. Then I’m looking at my stats wondering where the earnings are coming from.
Don’t forget to add a channel to your adsense ads and a tracking id at the end of your affiliate links to track sales. Even having tracking just for the entire domain helps.
I personally use one channel/id per site unless I’m working on something special.
Only Correct Typos Of Common Or Dictionary Words
If I make a typo of a common word I correct it. However if I typo a product, service, company name, event, etc I leave the typo the way it is.
Having a natural typo can sometimes bring good traffic to a page because if you naturally mispell something others might also.
People Click The First Link First
For almost every site I have, regardless if it’s a horizontal or vertical menu, the first link in the menu is always clicked first.
You can use this to your advantage by pointing the first link to your most profitable or highest converting pages/sections of your sites.
That’s all the randomness for today. Share a random affiliate tip yourself ;)
