I’ve purchased a domain before that took FOREVER, and a few emails to google, to get in googles index and I had concluded (or had a superstition) that the reason google wouldn’t stop by was because the previous owner had done bad things with the site.
I checked archive.org, and while I didn’t see anything bad, I knew for sure that the domain had been previously owned.
I swore then to never purchase a domain with an archive.org record.
Time passed and I’ve broken the rule a few times. At the end of December I purchased a domain, registered it for 5 years, and because I’m lazy sometimes I didn’t even check the archive.org history. Well, the domain had a history there.
Nothing shows up bad, but it’s been just over three weeks now since I’ve put a few very nice links to the site and my log files don’t even show the googlebot coming by to sniff the robots.txt file.
I’m not giving this domain any more time, I switched the content to another site and I’m going back to my rule, never buy a domain with archive.org history unless your willing to take on added risk.
Anybody else with similar experiences?
